At Sierra Nevada Periodontics and Implant Dentistry, Dr. French is proud to offer crown lengthening for her patients.

Sometimes, if your general dentist needs to place a crown on a tooth that is significantly broken down or decayed, a procedure called crown lengthening is necessary. Crown lengthening involves removing a small amount of bone and gum tissue around a tooth or teeth in order to make the tooth longer so that your general dentist can place a crown on the tooth and the tooth will not continue to break.

In addition, many people suffer from a condition that is often called “gummy smile.” This means that there is excess bone and gum tissue around their teeth, and their teeth look smaller than they should. For people who suffer from a “gummy smile,” crown lengthening can really help. Dr. French will actually reshape the extra gum and bone tissue that is covering your teeth so that your teeth are more visible and proportionate.

You can see an example below of how crown lengthening done by Dr. French helped a patient who had extensive decay. Without crown lengthening, this wonderful patient wouldn’t have had enough tooth structure to hold the crowns made by her general dentist, and that beautiful smile wouldn’t have happened!
