It is always our goal to give you a smile of which you can be proud. However, many people have a frenum, which is extra gum and tissue between the teeth, usually the front teeth either on top or bottom. This frenum can cause a gap between front teeth, or it can exert an excessive pull on the gum tissue and contribute to gum recession.
A frenectomy removes that excess tissue. If a gap between the front teeth is present it can be then be successfully closed with braces, Invisalign, or retainers. If the frenum was pulling on healthy gum tissue then removing it will help prevent that tissue from receding further.
After a thorough examination, Dr. French will discuss the best time to perform the procedure. If you have questions about frenectomies, simply contact us at (775) 322-5122 to set up an appointment with Dr. French.
